Our story takes place 4 years after the end of the Yu Yu Hakusho series. Yusuke Urameshi, the ex Spirit Detective and our protagonist, is now 22 years old annnddd....DUN DUN DUN...a newly-wed! Congrats (or not so much?) to miss Keiko Urameshi!
Since the end of the tournament, the team has dispersed, returning to their own lives as a new Spirit Detective team has risen to fill their shoes. Since, no one has heard from Koenma or the Spirit World, but this was destined not to last.
Within Spirit World, the Angel Society, a small, yet brilliant city based on morality and goodness, is brewing with evil. A team of 5 angels, known simply as "The Guardians", are virtually unheard of outside of a select few in Spirit World, yet they are King Yemma's ultimate warriors. They have only been commissioned once, and centuries ago. Seemingly without warning, the second youngest of the Guardians turned on his comrades, killing two and perminantly injuring a third.
He escaped and is now on the run, leaving the Spirit World authorities shitless. King Yemma, livid, has ordered he be found and brought to him personally, dead or alive, not only because of his crimes, but in fear of what destruction the renegade angel could wreak.
Meanwhile, the new Spirit Detectives were sent to investigate one of many peculiar establishments suddenly erected in the wilds of Human World. It had never been certain whether or not aliens existed at all, much less what they were like. But a Spirit World spy had confirmed the establishments are extra-terrestrial activity, but could not get any closer.
The Spirit Detectives' luck wasn't much better. The aliens were hostile upon their sneaky approach, injuring one in such a display of power that sent them on the retreat without even attempting a fight.
Life for humanity goes on as normal. However plant life has been mysteriously dying, the tides changing, and reports of unseasonal weather activity have been in increasing quantity all over the world. Humans are also going missing without explanation, demons seemingly to blame.
